Lubbock, Texas

It's almost time to get busy now......

This has been a long summer. First, I spent two weeks with the National Guard for my annual training. Then, I spent 5 weeks at a clerkship at Scott and White hospital in Temple, TX. Know I am getting ready to spend a week in El Paso, TX at my In-Laws house. I am looking forward to being able to wake up in my own bed and just go to class every morning. It has been a long summer....

I have started to get ready for my second year now. Even though it starts a little over 2 weeks away, I have already started buying my books, so I can start reading them. I am afraid I have turned into a 'gunner!' Had my rank not been so high the first year, I wouldn't worry about trying to keep it up. I have never asked a doctor that I went to what his grades were, or what his rank was. I just wanted him/her to help me. I am almost afraid that I have lost sight of what is important in the long run, like taking care of people and their problems. My grades right now won't matter ten years down the road. But I guess they DO matter when it comes to selecting a residency. Therefore I will plod along, staying a gunner.

Man, that was depressing. Now for something completely different..

I convinced my wife to let me buy some software for this next year. I bought titles in both Pathology and Microbiology. Expensive products, but with any luck it will allow me to study more often at home, an idea my wife loves. She also let me buy a faster modem, and she's almost ready to let me get a faster CD-ROM player. at this rate, I'll have spent all of my financial aid before it even gets here! (mainly becuase I had to fix the Air conditioner in my truck. $600 and counting)

Well, that's all for now. Tune in mext week, as the clock till my second year starts counts down.

James
