About the Diaries Project

June, 1996

The "Doctor Diaries" is our attempt, as members of the medical community, to gain insight into the American medical training process, through the eyes of current physcians and medical students.

Beginning May, 1996, the Doctor Diaries will follow a group of doctors, through weekly journal entries submitted through the internet. Our goal is to share the highlights and pitfalls of the American medical training process and to experience the hopes, dreams and aspirations behind the making of America's Doctors.

The Diaries project is an experiment, one of many which comprise the MedWorld project at Stanford. Expect changes as the Diaries project progresses. The internet is not a static medium, and neither is the Diaries project.

Our hope is that this site will evolve over the course of this year. We expect new cast members to appear and old ones to move on. We hope that our readers will become involved, and share their own experiences by becoming Diaries cast members. We anticipate that our cast will also diversify, notably with the addition of female and ethnically-diverse individuals. We want the Diaries project to reflect the diversity of the real life medical community.

We hope you will join us in this journey of discovery over the course of the next year. The Diaries project epitomizes the essence of the internet: uniting people over vast geographical and temporal barriers. The internet enables us to come together and learn about the medical training process, and hopefully, each other as well.

We hope to see you back at the Diaries site soon.
